Well, thank you, Lynne [Yelich], very much. It's great to be here in sunny Saskatoon. I understand there's a blizzard in Calgary right now so you folks are way ahead of them here. Thanks so much for allowing me to be here. Great to be here with my colleagues Lynne, Kelly Block, Brad Trost is here.
And I want to tell you the Mayor gave me a bit of a tour driving in from the airport. He was working hard early, early this morning in Toronto. And he got here in time for this but I want to say I'm really excited for you, for Saskatoon, for the announcement and for all the other announcements that have taken place over the last couple of years.
But it's great to see the cooperation that happens here between the federal government, the provincial and at the municipal level also. This project is fantastic, as I understand it.
But you know when you get the right combination together - a great premier, great mayor, great MPs - things start to happen. And it's very exciting to be able to announce this groundbreaking of a great project - eight kilometres of road, a new bridge for the city of bridges. And an exciting part of this, this project is already coming in under budget, already going to be less than was originally projected.
It's going to be fantastic for the city. The Prime Minister is very knowledgeable about the project itself and excited about it. I just want to congratulate everyone for working together on this.
And I just want to say one more thing quickly. This project and the linkages to it, they're hearing about what's happening here all the way to the coast. They're hearing about it in Beijing, in Shanghai and in Tokyo because I was in those three cities last week and there happened to be another person in those three cities and that was your Premier.
And he was with two other western premiers from Alberta and from B.C. And I'm telling you the business community in Asia were excited to hear this message about what three premiers have done to work together, announce they're working together with a whole approach to the new west and harmonizing regulations, bringing down barriers of trade.
And, Premier, that had a powerful effect on people who are contemplating investing, either Canadians back and forth into Asia, and Asia to here because this is a great local project and a provincial one.
But it actually helps to integrate road and rail lines all the way to the coast and back. The powerful economic effect is going to be felt right here because of this project and you can be proud of your Premier. He was front and centre with the key, the top people in the governments in China and in Japan and with the business community. It was great travelling with you, Premier. And it just made us all proud to see you there with the other premiers and advancing this great cause and the cause for all Canadians.
Thanks very much for everybody for being a part of this very successful project.
