Canada is a trading nation, and our ability to compete in a changing world demands a new kind of leadership. This is why our government launched the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative (APGCI) in 2006.
The Initiative is now midway into its mandate. With 47 projects announced and over $1.4 billion in federal funding committed, the federal government is building on the work of the dynamic Canadian private sector. However, there is still much work to be done.
The midway point of the APGCI is an opportunity for me to reflect on our progress so far and look ahead to the challenges and opportunities in the future.
This midterm report:
The APGCI is a driver of Canada’s economic prosperity and key to continued competitiveness. I look forward to the next phase and to continued collaboration with our partners in the private sector, provinces and municipalities that have contributed to the success of this initiative.
The Honourable Stockwell Day
President of the Treasury Board and
Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway
